Kangan is undoubtedly a perfect venue for dining.
This evening we started to explore the city for dining options. Started with Carter Road, where parking was a major issue; so didn't stop there.
Then we stopped in two different seafood specialities, well known in the city; in Juhu.
However it was too much of seafood. The moment we entered it was all smelling of seafood. Aroma in excess becomes smell which isn't too desirable. I think they need to use some air freshener.
Finally left from there too as couldn't dine there.
Then thought of Westin, Garden City.
Although was difficult to find the entrance to the hotel, when we entered it was worth searching.
Proper signages desparately are required to commute to the hotel.
We decided to go to seasonal tastes, that's the buffet restaurant.
After having a look at the buffet, decided to go for a'la carte as I was looking for Indian Non Veg, which wasn't too appealing in the buffet. Although the Oriental spread was interesting in the buffet. Seems like the hotel is catering to a good number of Asian Clientele.
As I told the same to the order taker, he promptly suggested Kangan to me since I was looking for Indian Food. I asked for the menu after going through the menu we decided to move to Kangan.
The restaurant ambience at first go, didn't impress me much as I was expecting a complete Indian Ambience, while it wasn't. The tables and chairs were more Western rather than Indian. Very few wall hanging artifacts were present, that connected well to the ambience. To one end, towards kitchen I could see some Kangans that I felt could be inside the restaurant or on some console in the center or at the entrance of the restaurant would be more connecting.
However it was quite beautiful.
We were seated to a very nice area, a table from where I could enjoy the food with the awesome view of the city. Again I felt there was something missing in the table setup. A fine dining could have something more than just Table mats, cutlery and a side plate with an ordinary napkin fold and a glass.
It was Baisakhi Special Menu. Although I would go again to see the Regular A'la Carte Menu as well.
If you like spicy food, try asking for what I asked, An onion based gravy with green chilies' spicy nature and no red chilies. Since I had thought of what I had to eat. I didn't look into the menu and told my preference to the order taker. I don't remember but some dish he suggested in chicken and was exactly what I wanted. Even my special preference of using green & not red chilies was well considered, which I was pleasantly surprised of.
Before the meal came, was an amuse-bouche of papads and onions with chutney was placed on the table. The placing of chutneys and onions was quite nice in a three tier stand with bowls in it.
The chutney was just perfect. It was just the right consistency, neither too watery and nor too thick.
And the food came quite fast. Might have been because the restaurant was almost done with all tables. I still checked with the server, is this the standard time that is taken for any order and he said yes.
I hesitantly ordered for an extra naan, as it was beyond the order time; but this request was also accommodated well.
I wanted to try some Indian Dessert but most of them were too sweet. So I thought of an ice cream. Although it wasn't in the menu, yet the server got it from the coffee shop probably for me. Although it was nice, yet a suggestion: Some different flavors of Ice Cream can be added to menu as now innovative & unique flavors are in.
And this is how our late night dinner hunt was concluded well at Kangan, Westin Garden City, Mumbai
Truely, Excellent Food, well complemented by service.
